It was discovered that GNOME File Roller incorrectly handled symlinks.

Resolution

All GNOME File Roller users should upgrade to the latest version:

      # emerge --sync
      # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=app-arch/file-roller-3.36.3"
